School Support - Uganda

In 2019 I found myself in Uganda. While I was there, I had the good fortune to meet and speak with Daniel and Susan Kabugo. Susan, with the support of her husband and beautiful family of 5 took a huge leap of faith in 2017 and created a school abutting Kiwoko Hospital in Nakasake District in Uganda.  I found their story compelling and decided I wanted to help. Every year since I have created birthday fundraising campaigns.  My birthday is January 21st.  Over 100 people have become friends of Sonshine since my first campaign.  We have built buildings, drilled for water, purchased land and teachers’ accommodations. We have built walls and bricked-in courtyards.  Beds and desks have been built and a kitchen and storehouse completed.  Just under $500,000 has helped make all this happen.

There are now two campuses.  A 5-minute walk separates them.  Over 400 children are receiving a quality education while giving just under 40 people fair employment.  Several volunteers are also involved.  The community has fully embraced the school and the adjacent hospital has seen a marked decrease in their staff turnover due to the proximity and quality of the school.

The school now educates children from the ages of 0-11.

So what next you might ask? The dream and goal is to serve children through primary school up to the age of 14 or 15.  This means more classrooms are needed, a sports area created, a library, a health centre and a computer lab created, just to name a few.  We also need a scholarship fund to help those students unable to pay the modest annual fees. As you can see our campaign is not over.  The school has created hope in a very poor area of Uganda.

I invite you to read the story of Sonshine School.

If you want to join us, Contact Me and we will joyfully bring you into the Sonshine family.  Donations of any size are welcome and will be put to great use giving children and families hope!
